- Description
- This is the third of six songs in the song cycle, ‘The Rain is Coming’, a response to Schubert’s ‘Die schöne Müllerin’, told from a female perspective. Beginning where Schubert’s cycle ends, the songs reference themes from the original work and explore the Miller’s daughter’s dreams and desires. Trapped, haunted by the image of finding the dead Miller in the water, she follows the river to seek freedom. This song mirrors the middle song in Schubert's original cycle 'Tränenregen' where the Miller and the Maid sit together by the river.
‘The Rain Is Coming’ was originally written for Roderick Williams (Baritone) and Susie Allan (Piano). A short documentary on the making of the project is available at: https://youtu.be/fjfwj1lu4nM. The full cycle is: https://youtu.be/-lJX9L3CM5g with this song starting at 8.04.
This project was supported by PSRF Women Make Music, Arts Council England, the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust and Sound and Music.
